About The Family Place
Registered as York North Family Resource Programmes
The Family Place is a registered charity dedicated to supporting children aged 0-6 and their caregivers. We offer a wide range of services, including drop-in play, educational programs, and social and recreational activities.
Our facility features two spacious playrooms, engaging crafts, and a welcoming environment where children and caregivers can connect and grow together. We also provide hot lunches and a variety of programs designed to support both children and those who care for them.
Our History
How We Were Founded
The Family Place, originally founded as The Strawberry Patch in Queensville, Ontario, in 1991, was the vision of two mothers who wanted to create a supportive space where families could connect and share their experiences. What began as a simple idea quickly expanded, leading to the formation of a board of directors and the opening of additional locations in Keswick and Sutton, with plans for a future site in Mount Albert.
In 2002, changes in government funding for family programs prompted The Family Place to remain an independent family resource program. Although the original locations were closed during this transition, the organization has continued to thrive in Mount Albert, now serving hundreds of families in the region each year.
The Family Place is funded by the Newmarket Charitable Gaming Association (Bingo World), as well as through annual fundraisers and private donations.
